Ansley/Litchfield advances to State Semifinals

The Ansley/Litchfield Lady Spartans advanced to the Class D1 semifinals
of the girls state basketball tournament with a 49-43 win over #3 seed and defending state champion Guardian Angels Central Catholic. The Spartans jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter and led 30-18 at halftime. GACC battled back in the second half to tie the game at 41 but were never able to take the lead as Ansley Litchfield closed the game on an 8-2 run to secure the win. Alyssa Bailey led the way for the Spartans with 20 points and Sarah Lewis also finished in double figures with 12. Ansley Litchfield will now play BDS in the semifinals as BDS held off Friend 56-47. The semifinal will take place at the Devaney Center in Lincoln at 10:45 Friday morning. The game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and on KBBN.com with coverage beginning around 10:30. The other D1 semifinal will feature top seed Pleasanton against North Central.

Sandhills Thedford saw its season come to an end Thursday at the Class D2 tournament. The Lady Knights battled tough against the top seed Falls City Sacred Heart. S/T trailed by 8 at halftime but were out scored 20-10 in the second half. The Knights were led by Marlee Taylor who had a team high 14. FCSH will meet Hyannis in the D2 semifinals. Hyannis ran past Wauneta Palisade 64-36. Th other D2 semi will feature Exeter Milligan against Humphrey St Francis.

In class C2, Burwell fell 2 points short of their bid to advance to the semifinal round as the Lady Longhorns fell to #2 Stanton 47-45. Stanton will now face Superior in the C2 semis. The other C2 semi will feature Ravenna against Hastings St Cecelia.
