Anselmo-Merna, South Loup, and Mullen Advance to District Finals

The Anselmo-Merna Coyotes boys basketball team qualified for the district finals with an 80-65 win over Ansley/Litchfield Thursday night in the D1-10 sub district championship game at Broken Bow. The final score did not reflect how tight the game was. The teams went back and forth all night with Anselmo-Merna able to pull away late and seal things from the free throw line. The Coyotes were led by Seth Miller who scored a game high 28 and Jace Leibhart complimented that effort with 21. The Spartans were led by Chris Paitz who had a team high 18. The Coyotes improve to 19-3 on the season and advance to sub-state and the district finals. Meanwhile, the Spartans (20-5) are hopeful that their position in the NSAA point standings will be high enough to receive a wildcard berth and an at large berth in the sub-state tournament.

South Loup is on to sub-state and will play in a district final. The Bobcats advanced with a thrilling 56-54 win over Cambridge to win the C2-11 sub district championship. South Loup improves to 19-4 this season.

Mullen also advanced to a district final with a 52-32 win over Hyannis to claim the D2-10 sub-district title Thursday night at North Platte St. Pat’s.

Ogallala defeated Cozad 63-53 in the C1-11 sub district final at Sutherland. Ogallala automatically advances to a district final while Cozad should still be a strong candidate for a wild card berth.

The pairings for sub-state and the district final matchups should be released by the NSAA sometime Friday morning.
