Anselmo-Merna Knocks Off Cross County at Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase

The Anselmo-Merna Lady Coyotes collected their 8th win of the season Saturday at the 2nd Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase in Kearney.  Anselmo-Merna met Class D1 Cross County in the opening game of the showcase Saturday morning.  The two could not have given the day a more exciting start.  Anselmo-Merna prevailed in overtime 53-52.  Leading by 2 late in overtime, AM’s Hadlee Safranek came up with a steal and scored a layup to put Anselmo-Merna up 53-49 with under 20 seconds to go.  Cross County’s Lindee Kelley made a 3 with 5.6 seconds left to bring the Cougars to within one but the Coyotes would hang on to collect the win.  AM was led by Jaide Chandler who was selected as the player of the game.  Chandler had a game high 25 points.  Shaylyn Safranek also finished in double figures with 15 for the Lady Coyotes who improve to 8-4 on the season.
