D1Baseball.com‘s Kendall Rogers published an in-depth story Monday about the growing relationship with Major League Baseball and the college game. There was one bit of detail that’s certainly of considerable interest for the Omaha community.

In the piece, Rogers noted that the MLB hosted a Pirates-Cardinals game at the site of the Little League World Series last summer. Now the league wants to do to something similar for the College World Series.
Here’s what TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle told Rogers: ‘“I think MLB wants that type of event to be a celebration of baseball, just like it was at the LLWS. They did some different things with college baseball on the MLB Network last year, will again this year, and this would be one of many things they want to do to get further involved with the college game.”
So perhaps it’s a scenario where two MLB teams play on Thursday inside TD Ameritrade Park. Then the opening ceremonies begin Friday. Then the CWS starts Saturday. What a week.
It may not be feasible to plan in time for the 2018 series, according to Rogers’ reporting. But 2019 is definitely on the table.
Rogers also reported Monday that there is an increased likelihood that the MLB will bring its annual amateur draft to Omaha, hosting the event on site in conjunction with (or in advance of) the CWS.
