36 girls softball teams battled against one another over the weekend at the 2nd annual “Spirit of the Sandhills” tournament.
The teams competed in three different divisions.
The 12 & under champions were the Panhandle Pride. The Bow Spirit 12 & under team had a good tournament picking up wins Saturday against Edge White (7-6) and the Midnight Prowlers (7-0). On Sunday, the Spirit fell to the Northwest Voyagers (6-2) but then rebounded to defeat the Titans 11-8. Bow then saw their tournament run end by falling to the Edge Red 9-5.
The 14 & under champions were the Columbus Bullets. The Bow Spirit 14 & under team went 2-1 on Saturday beginning with a win over the Hastings Bombers 4-2 then fell to the Cozad Classics White 5-1. Bow finished Saturday’s play on a winning note by defeating the Bandits (3-2). On Sunday, Broken Bow was knocked off by the Nebraska Shockwave 6-3 and then fell to the Gothenburg Angels 9-2.
In the combined 16/18 & under, the champion was Kelly’s Fastpitch of Norfolk. Broken Bow had two teams compete in the division. The Bow Spirit Blue suffered losses on Saturday to Polk County Slammers (10-1), Cozad Classics (8-2) and Chadron Slammers (5-2). On Sunday the Spirit Blue fell to the Titans 7-0. The Spirit white team opened Saturday’s action with a 7-1 win over the Flames of Nebraska but then fell to the Sandhills Sharks 6-1. The Spirit White would rebound to end the day with an 11-1 win over the Mid Plains Prowlers. On Sunday, the Spirit dropped two low scoring affairs falling to the Cozad Classics 2-1 and then lost to the Polk County Slammers 2-0.
