Wood Sentenced For Marijuana Inventory

NEBRASKA CITY – A Florida man was sentenced to probation, time served and a fine after the Nebraska State Patrol found what Deputy Attorney County Attorney John Palmtag described Wednesday as “enough marijuana to get the entire state of Nebraska high.”

Palmtag said 36-year-old George Wood Jr. was traveling with 164 pounds of marijuana, 4,700 marijuana cigarettes, 500 units of cannabis oil, 500 units of cannabis wax and 100 boxes of vapor pens.

Defense Attorney Julie Bear pointed out that the state had agreed to a joint recommendation of a probation sentence.

She noted Wood’s honorable military service and his clean civilian record for prior offenses.

Judge Julie Smith sentenced him to three years probation and a $7,250 fine. She said if he sits out the fine for 49 days, he would serve a year in jail, but Wood said he would pay the fine.

A co-defendant, 30-year-old Travis Hardin of Florida, is scheduled for pre-trial conference April 24 on three counts of delivery and distribution.
