Women’s Health Fair: Mother and Cancer Survivor to Share Her Story

DESHLER - A wife and mother will share her personal story in hopes that women will monitor their health more closely. Thayer County Health Services Wellness Program Coordinator Marissa Bongers says, "She has fought through breast cancer and is in remission, so she's sharing her story. Great, young female who wasn't expecting that to happen to her, and it did, so she's going around and sharing her story." Ashil Brehm's story is part of the Thayer County Health Services and Korff Fitness and Wellness Center Women's Health Night. The evening will focus on all things health, including fitness and food. Women are encouraged to bring their family and friends, even children, to the educational event. Babysitting will be provided by local 4-H groups for a free-will donation. Women can participate in a yoga sequence, along with learning of osteoporosis and some  prevention tips. "Obviously, very important to get a routine physical just to see - things could change in a year. You never know what's going to come up, even if you feel healthy. It's important to take control of your health and do the things that you can do prior to having unfortunate circumstances." All attendees will receive a complimentary gift, healthy snacks and recipes. The event will be held Wednesday, October 18th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Deshler Ag Hall.
