COLUMBUS, Neb. - A woman convicted of using a gun to rob a Columbus bar last summer was given years in prison.
30-year-old Malinda Honea of Columbus was given 8-14 years in prison on the charge of using a firearm to commit a felony. She had a robbery and meth charge dropped in a plea deal.
Court records say Honea held an Avenue Bar employee at gunpoint and took over $600, with Columbus man Devin Piper providing initial surveillance and driving the getaway car.
"My view Ms. Honea is that you meant business when you committed your crime in the case," says Judge Robert Steinke.
Honea apologized to everybody affected by her decision and especially her victims.
"The money from the bar has been returned but no dollar amount of restitution can replace the sense of security that I stole," says Honea.
Her sentence included a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, and Judge Steinke said that she will be forced to spend at least six and half years behind bars.
Honea is not out of legal trouble, she is wanted in Colorado for breaking parole and has warrants for her arrest in Richardson, Saline and Lancaster counties in Nebraska.
She was given credit for 140 days served.
