Wind Energy Regulations Stall Again in Pierce County

PIERCE - Pierce County still has no closure regarding the potential for wind development. Pierce County Commissioners once again delayed approving a countywide wind energy proposal at their meeting on Monday. Commissioners said they are still gathering information regarding what would be best for the county, and said they want to speak with commissioners in other counties about how they’ve handled wind regulations. Pierce County originally drafted their proposal in January, after numerous hearings. The potential for wind development in Pierce County has drawn strong reactions on both sides, although zoning administrator Heather McWhorter said Monday most of the people she’s heard from of late are for wind energy. If the Pierce County Commissioners green-light the proposed regulations at their February 26th meeting, they would then formally vote on a wind energy resolution in March.
