BROKEN BOW—Education, the arts, and supporting regional artists are the primary goals of the Wild Rose Gallery. The gallery recently celebrated a ribbon cutting and grand reopening at is new location on the city square in Broken Bow (444 South 8th Ave on the corner of 8th and Highway 2). The Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce welcomed the gallery to the square. Operating as a nonprofit, the gallery relies on volunteers to help promote its goals of supporting regional artwork. Board president Paul Loomer says it was a big move but is enjoying the new location, just down the street from the original location which opened nearly 10 years ago. Loomer, who worked as the Broken Bow 7-12th grade art teacher for 34 years, said he appreciates the support of landlady Gina Albus for prepping the space and the board of directors. “Our landlady Gina Albus, she did all of the painting and removed a partition here, a piece of wall so we could open up the whole building to where it was more like a gallery,” Loomer said. “Well I’ve got a great board of directors. Because I’ve got Roberta Barnes as the secretary, Laron McGinn is vice president, Teresa Haney is the treasurer. And they’re really good with, you know, with working with me. It was a process but we got it done,” he continued. The Wild Rose functions as a coop gallery in which members pay rent each month to display their work. Regional artists range from Custer County, Thedford, Oconto, and Gothenburg areas. “People can expect to see artwork from all the different genres. We have everything from abstract to very representational art, almost photo realism. And the prices ranges from the lowest right on up to the highest, there’s something here for everybody. And we’ve got pottery, we have prints, cards and it’s all original artwork. None of this is commercial type thing, this is all original pieces. If you buy a piece of art here no one else has it but you,” Loomer said. Board members plan to host art workshops soon for anyone to learn new art mediums in a non-threatening environment. The Wild Rose (click here to view Facebook page) is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Wild Rose Gallery 444 South 8th Avenue Broken Bow, NE 68822 308-872-6345
