Watermeier Prioritizes Online Sales Tax

LINCOLN - State Sen. Dan Watermeier has selected an online sales tax measure as his priority bill. He said LB44 would require onerous reporting requirements for out-of-state retailers that do not pay sales tax. He said the bill will encourage retailers to avoid the reporting requirements by voluntarily submitting the sales tax. He said, if the courts rule this summer that out-of-state retailers must pay sales tax, LB44 would allow Nebraska to begin collecting sales tax on online purchases on July 1.
