Walton Looks Forward To Third Term As Sheriff

TECUMSEH – Johnson County Sheriff Scott Walton won nomination for re-election in the May primary on a two to one ratio and says he is looking forward to his third term in office. He has been in law enforcement since 1995, including time at Seward and Pawnee counties. Walton said the  the most important project at the current time is the Active Shooting Program that is being initiated in our law enforcement agencies.   He feels we need to do whatever necessary to bring an end to active and school shootings and said the solution has an emphasis on mental health issues facing today's society. He also states keeping taxes in line is very important.  He gets a budget update  each month to make sure he is in line with the figures for the year.  A new vehicle is purchased every other year in most cases.  When they recently purchased a canine officer there was a vehicle donated so it was not necessary to purchase a new vehicle. Walton is attempting to keep abreast of the latest happenings with the Elk Creek  mining project.  Ten wells were to be dug to accommodate the mining operations. Two youth related projects are D.A.R.E. and the  Johnson County CAN Coalition which Scott feels are very important and supports them in whatever ways he can. The Sheriff is required to attend specialized training each year to facilitate the duties necessary to ensure the safety of the people and property of the county and to serve the court and enforce court orders.
