Walker Entities, LLC Receives GROW Broken Bow Award

Walker Entities, LLC Receives GROW Broken Bow Award
Mark and Susie Walker receive GROW Award from the Broken Bow Chamber on Tuesday afternoon.
BROKEN BOW—You might not know it driving by, but within just one acre of property on east Highway 2 (518 E South E Street, Broken Bow, NE 68822) are four businesses operating as Walker Entities, LLC. Walker Entities includes The Quilting Shack, The Smoke Shack, The Cleaning Shack, and U-Haul. To celebrate their continued growth in the Broken Bow business community, the chamber presented Mark and Susie Walker with a GROW Broken Bow award on Tuesday afternoon. “Our child has continued to grow and blossom,” Mark Walker said with a laugh. “This is bigger than we ever had anticipated. We never thought that it would ever go this way. Mark and I, we work great together. Sometimes, husband and wife couples can’t work together—we do! We’re a good team and you know, we back each other up on the things that are going on so it’s good,” Susie Walker said. The Quilting Shack has been open for one year and was formerly the home of a meat packing facility and slaughter house for 50 years. After some serious renovation and retrofitting, the Walkers were able to turn the space into the Quilting Shack which carries needles, thread, fabric, cake decorating materials, candy molds, and much more. Susie is also a big supporter of local 4-H and loves to see students succeed. A classroom is located in the back of the Quilting Shack and anyone looking to learn more about sewing can get one-on-one lessons with Susie or staff members. They can help customers with their projects and love to see people excited about their finished products! Mark said he worked as a cable tech for 30 years and was planning for an early retirement. Instead, their son came up with the tobacco store idea and the Smoke Shack has now been in businesses for about 10 years. He said he wanted to keep business local for people to be able to buy tobaccos products, cigars, non-tobacco products, knives, trinkets, gifts, and a wide variety of other items as well. The Walkers call Broken Bow their home and are excited to receive the GROW award. It has always been important to them to keep money local and support the business community. When a dry cleaning service and then U-Haul were going to be leaving town, the Walkers decided to take on those businesses as well so people did not have to drive outside of town. “So much of it was really designed for the community and this area,” Mark Walker said. Susie and Mark are appreciative of their staff and consider them family and the “backbone” of the four businesses. Congratulations Walker Entities!
