Visitors Enjoy State Parks While Waiting for Solar Eclipse

INDIAN CAVE STATE PARK - Local hotels aren't the only facilities available for visitors to book. Many explorers have packed up their tents and hauled their campers to Nebraska in anticipation of viewing the Solar Eclipse. Indian Cave State Park was filled with tourists exploring what Nebraska's landscape had to offer. The park's staff also hosted a variety of activities for guests to participate in. Southeast Region Superintendent Kevin Holliday says, "People started coming in this past Friday, booking their spots. We have a buffalo cookout - it's a stew feed. Then after that, we have a Native American speaker, Matthew "Sitting Bear" Jones. We're excited to have him and there should be lots of people coming to listen to him talk, and enjoy the buffalo stew cookout." The Solar Eclipse has helped in bringing folks from all over the country, to our small Nebraskan towns. Holliday says it's been great to see visitors take interest in the park's history. "Most of the campers are from out of state. From Minnesota, even Colorado. Other northern states. So yeah, from all over the country - they're coming down. Australia, so even out of the country. We are excited to have everybody see this beautiful park at a perfect time during the eclipse." Other activities guests got to enjoy this past weekend included living history demonstrations, horse trail rides and a movie "The Night Sky – America’s Total Solar Eclipse" on the outdoor amphitheater.
