Veterans Celebrated at Norfolk Ceremony

NORFOLK - Patriotism outweighs cynicism in northeast Nebraska. That was the sense of the Veteran’s Day ceremony held at the Norfolk Veterans Home on Friday. The event began with a flag-raising and featured numerous speakers, who espoused the virtues of the legacy of military service. “The military is a family business,” said Ret. Air Force Command MSgt. Mark Clark. “Thank God for it.” Clark said the celebration of veterans is not meant to be limited to one day every year, but continued year-round. “Believe it or not, you live in a community of heroes,” Clark said. “They’re all around you. They work at your grocery stores, your gas stations, your power companies. They own their own businesses and are a part of every aspect of the community that they live in. Seek them out.” Clark also spoke at programs at Norfolk Catholic and Norfolk High School, spreading the importance of everything veterans have done for them. “You are all part of a grand legacy that has made a difference in the countless hundreds of millions of people around the world who will never know your name,” Clark said. There was no cynicism about the military, the flag or America on Friday in Norfolk, just an immense sense of gratitude for those that allow us to live free.
