Verdigre Man Who Murdered Wife Wants Conviction Thrown Out

CENTER - A Verdigre man convicted of murdering his wife is asking the court for post-conviction relief. In a hearing last week, District Court Judge James Kube heard the motion for post-conviction relief submitted by 69-year old Phillip Privett. Privett was sentenced to 40 to 60 years in prison in May of 2015, after pleading no contest to second-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, Linda, the previous October in Verdigre. In his motion for relief, Privett argues that he had ineffective counsel that, among other things, failed to take into account post-traumatic stress disorder that Privett says he suffers from his time in Vietnam. Privett also argued that he couldn't hear many of the court hearings, and had trouble understanding what was going on. Judge Kube has given both sides until May 1st to submit briefs in the case, at which time he'll take Privett's request under advisement.
