Trump’s Trade Moves Find Fischer Worried—and Apparently Watching Her Back

Omaha, NE.—The headline reads, "Sen. Fischer says she's worried about trade." The story goes on to quote Fischer, "It does seem to be the way the President negotiates, though. And when you think the sky is falling somehow it works out." But it's the last line of the Hastings Tribune story that truly grabs your attention, indicating that the first-term Republican, who is up for re-election in November, worries President Trump is and eye-for-an-eye kind of guy:

"Fischer is cautious with any criticism of President Trump, saying it is important to maintain a good relationship with the White House."

All this far from the tough talk of her fellow Nebraska Republican, Sen. Ben Sasse, who called the President's trade war, "Dumb." Sasse then went on to turn Mr. Trump's campaign slogan against the President: "Europe, Canada, and Mexico are not China, and you don’t treat allies the same way you treat opponents. We’ve been down this road before—blanket protectionism is a big part of why America had a Great Depression. 'Make America Great Again' shouldn’t mean 'Make America 1929 Again.'" It's the kind of political opening Fischer's Democratic opponent, Jane Raybould, has to be happy about. The question is what's next. Take a look at our story above.
