TRIAL— The trial for Trenton Esch began the morning of Tuesday, June 15 with jury selection in Custer County District Court. Esch who is accused of fatally shooting 62-year-old Crystal Esch in 2020 near Broken Bow, could face life in prison if he is found guilty of first-degree murder.
Along with the alleged murder charge, Esch is accused of use of a firearm to commit a felony (Class IC Felony) and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person (Class ID Felony) which each carries a maximum prison sentence of 50 years in jail.
Opening statements are expected to begin Wednesday morning.
