COLUMBUS - As a part of a yearly educational course, tree trimmers got to see first hand, the damage power lines can cause.
UNL-Extension's Kelly Feehan organizes the annual educational event, so tree trimmers can clock in their required 3 hours of class time.
"Every year we talk about different tree related issues, and this year we've decided to focus on safety. So we're very happy that Loup Public Power and NPPD came and helped us do the safety demonstration with the electricity that you were just watching and we also have Terry Reardon, with Reardon lawn and garden, that's going to do some chainsaw safety later," says Feehan.
Loup Power Supervisor Rick Prater says they see this as a good opportunity to work with the public, and hopefully have a meaningful impact. Loup Power's Chase Davis and Trent Konwinski put on the display for those that attended.
"We don't want to see anybody get killed. We have guys who work around it all the time. They've been trained to do it. They went to school to do it. So we like to pass it on to the public and keep them safe," says Prater.
The classes were held at the Platte County Courthouse, with the electric demonstration taking place outside Frankfort Square.
