A winter storm could make travel treacherous across northern Nebraska and portions of northern Iowa this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
A thin glaze of ice may form first, followed by 5 to 9 inches of snow and wind gusts of 25 mph. The combination has the weather service urging travelers — including those heading north on Interstate 29 — to monitor conditions.
The weather service has placed northern Nebraska and northwest Iowa under a winter storm warning for Friday night through Sunday morning.
In the Omaha area, the storm is forecast to begin as rain Friday night before transitioning to a rain-snow mix on Saturday. It could last into Sunday.
