The Zone Rocks the Block for Annual Fundraiser

NORFOLK - An organization known for their after school activities celebrated students before school starts for the year. The Zone of Norfolk hosted their annual Rock the Block fundraiser event on Saturday. The gathering featured a children’s carnival, games and live music. Organizers say they wanted to grow Rock the Block and make it a signature summer staple for Norfolk. “We did it last year as sort of a ‘friend-raiser’ to try and get our feet wet,” said Zone director Julee Pfeil. “We made it bigger this year and would like it to be one of our annual fundraisers.” The Zone was able to block off Braasch Avenue right in front of their facility, giving the public a chance to see their building and what they’re all about. Pfeil says the kids of the Zone helped volunteer at the event. “When they see this all in motion, they feel pretty proud of some of the work that they’ve done to help make this happen,” Pfeil said. The Zone reopened in the summer of 2012 after briefly having to shut down due to budget concerns. They’ve been at their Braasch Avenue location since 2016.
