Temporary link restores internet to Spiral Communication customers to Nebraska City area

UPDATE: Spiral Communication crews may have brought a sigh of relief for “Game of Thrones” fans.

Officials said Sunday afternoon they were able to get a redundancy link up and working. However, they are still working on the main fiber cut that happened Saturday afternoon and caused an outage.

“Speeds may lag during peak usage times as this link is not our main gateway,” officials said. “Thank you all for your patience and we will be sending out an email to explain everything in detail on Monday.”

NEBRASKA CITY – Fans of “Game of Thrones” are worried they won’t be able to watch the final season premiere of the HBO hit series tonight (Sunday) after a cut to the main gateway fiber has caused an internet outage for Spiral Communications customers in Nebraska City, Sidney, Beaver Lake and other wireless customers in the region.

The issue began around 2 p.m. on Saturday. Internet service still wasn’t available at 9 a.m. Sunday.

There is a major fiber cut in our network,” Spiral officials told News Channel Nebraska. “All of our crews are currently out working to get it resolved.”

In an update sent late Saturday night, the company said their website, customer portal and phone systems are down due to the outage in Nebraska City.

“Our techs are working on a way to get those systems up,” Officials said. “We apologize for the inconvenience this is having on our customers. We are doing everything we can to resolve the issue.”

Once the issue is resolved, the company said they will send an email to customers affected.

B103.fm and ncn21.com are both still available for listeners to access our news, sports and weather coverage. However, listeners won’t be able to access our online player until the issue is resolved. B103 and Otoe County Country remain on-air, despite the outage.
