Supreme Court: Put Krist’s Name on Democrat Ballot for Governor

Omaha, NE.—A key late-day legal ruling has set up the likelihood that Democrat Bob Krist will challenge Gov. Pete Ricketts in November. Following several days of uncertainty the Nebraska Supreme Court late Monday ruled that Krist's name "should be placed" on the May Primary ballot. The 20-page ruling was written by Chief Justice Michael Heavican and depended largely on a key 20-year-old Secretary of State memo first reported by News Channel Nebraska. That memo (see details here) cleared the way for Krist to make the ballot. Krist has two other Democratic opponents in the primary but Krist is considered the heavy favorite, pitting him against Ricketts. The decision gives the Democrats their arguably best chance to win the governor's mansion in 20 years.
