LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — If you think the moon is bigger and brighter than normal this weekend, it’s not just because you’re excited about the Scott Frost news.
This weekend, the moon will actually appear 16 percent bigger than normal.
Why? 10/11 Meteorologist John Walsh said there will be a supermoon Sunday night. However, because it is the last full moon of the year, it’s actually called a super “Frost” moon…seriously.
Walsh said the moon will be closer to Earth than normal because of its elliptical orbit, but on Sunday, it will coincide with a full moon, thus causing the supermoon.
Walsh said the best time to see it is when it comes up over the horizon, but added that Lincoln does have the potential for some cloud cover, which could make it difficult to see the supermoon.
