Sumner-Eddyville-Miller School Foundation Gala April 9 in Broken Bow

BROKEN BOW—Join the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller (SEM) School Foundation for the Gatsby Gala on Saturday, April 9. The gala will be held at the One Box Convention Center in Broken Bow (2750 S 27th St.) with doors opening at 5:30 p.m., silent auction at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., followed by the live auction at 8 p.m.

The SEM School Foundation holds the bi-annual banquet and auction to raise money for extra-curricular activities and community projects. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased from the front office at SEM school, The Mane Place, or any board member.

Board member Bobbi Lorenz spoke with KCNI/KBBN on March 28 on the Get Up and Go Breakfast Show. She said past events have raised money to help with recent projects such as the SEM E-Sports Team equipment and tools and upgraded equipment for the weight room.

“Proceeds from the auction all go to promote extra-curricular activities in the community at SEM. We provide funds for things that aren’t included in the normal school budget and community projects as well,” Lorenz said.

Scholarship grants are also made possible thanks to the SEM School Foundation for high school students who take college courses while they are still in school. Lorenz said they are eligible for 50% reimbursement so long as the students receive a B grade or better.

This year’s banquet will be held in Broken Bow and catered by Jubilee Events & Catering out of Ord, Neb. Purchasing tickets in advance is appreciated. Contact the SEM School Foundation through its Facebook page, contact a board member, or call Bobbi 402-418-4507 for ticket information.

The SEM School Foundation hosts its big fundraiser every two years and distributes the funds accordingly as needs arise.

“It’s spread out over two years if people come to us within the community with needs and different ideas. We’ve got lots of ideas to try to help support the community and build SEM into an excelling school for the community,” Lorenz told KCNI/KBBN.
