COLUMBUS - A thief was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he came across a group of track students, who helped aid police in his capture.
Columbus Police say they received a report from a priest at Scotus Central Catholic who saw a suspicious man carrying, what appeared to be, a purse stolen out of a vehicle.
The man fled the scene, but was later spotted by a group of Scotus track athletes, who recognized the man to be the same one the priest had spotted earlier, said police. The athletes then began following the man and helped chase him back to police where he was apprehended.
The alleged thief, Jeremy Nielsen, 37, was arrested for theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of a drug paraphernalia, say authorities.
The incident took place at around 5:43 p.m. on Thursday say police.
