State Parks Offer Viewing Sites For Solar Eclipse

SHUBERT - Nebraska Game and Parks is posting an interactive map detailing the solar eclipse Aug. 21 in relation to state parks and recreation areas. Indian Cave State Park near Shubert has activities planned for Saturday, Aug. 19, inlcuding living history demonstrations and a buffalo stew cookout. Matthew "Sitting Bear" Jones will present the Native American program, "Otoe-Missouria: The Forgotten Nebraskans" at 7 p.m. Living history continues on Sunday and the movie at the amphitheater will focus on the solar eclipse. The partial eclipse at Indian Cave is Monday at 11:39 a.m. totality of 2 min and 17 seconds begins at 1:04 p.m. Viewing sites are also planned at the Rockford Lake State Recreation Area in Gage County. Partial eclipse begins at the Verdon State Recreation Area at 11:38 a.m. Totality of 1 minute, four seconds, begins at 1:04 p.m. The 45 acre lake is located at Verdon.
