BROKEN BOW—State Farm Insurance in Broken Bow wanted to give back to the community and local agent Donna Cahill thought the Broken Bow Food Pantry would be the perfect place.

Approximately $1,000 worth of food and paper products was donated to the food pantry on Thursday, June 11. State Farm ordered the supplies through the Grocery Kart and staff members delivered items to the pantry on Thursday afternoon.

“We decided that we wanted to do something for the community here locally and Grocery Kart is local as well and plus they’re right next to me. So we worked with them and they were great with delivering everything out here and ordering everything for the food pantry. We wanted to help the community so basically that’s what we did,” Cahill told KCNI/KBBN.

Donation items included tuna, chicken, cereal, single roll toilet paper, paper towels, pancake mix, scalloped potatoes, with more items coming next week

Cahill said she and Brandi Oeltjen also had a busy morning as they delivered Subway sandwiches to the hospital, nursing homes, and police department as a way to say thank you to essential workers for everything they do.

The Broken Bow Food Pantry–operated by the Broken Bow Ministerial Association–is open Tuesday and Thursday 1 to 3 p.m. and in the evening on the first Tuesday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. Volunteers Carolyn Mohler, Jim Salts, and Gertrude Mogensen appreciated the donation and said they never turn anything down!

Mohler and Salts told KCNI/KBBN the food pantry is always in need of toiletries and is currently in need of pancake syrup, flour, sugar, salt, pepper, peanut butter and jelly, ketchup, mustard, soap, and crackers.

The food pantry is located at 1100 S 6th Ave, Broken Bow, NE 68822 and accepts non-perishable food items, toiletries, paper products, & monetary donations. For more information contact Kathy Salts at 872-5093. Due to COVID-19, volunteers are serving the public via prepacked curbside pick-up only.
