Staff member assaulted at Tecumseh prison

LINCOLN — A staff member at the Tecumseh State Prison suffered a concussion after being kicked in the face by an inmate Thursday night. The incident occurred as the inmate was being taken to a prison skilled nursing unit for observation. The inmate went limp during the transport and then began fighting three staff members who were escorting him, according to Dawn-Renee Smith, a prison spokeswoman. The staffer was kicked in the face during the scuffle. Smith said the incident will be referred to the Johnson County Attorney for possible criminal prosecution, and the inmate will face disciplinary sanctions.
