Southwest Iowa man, 21, arrested in connection with crash near Hamburg

A 21-year-old southwest Iowa man was arrested early Friday in connection with a crash near Hamburg that left four people injured, including one critically.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said authorities reported to a one-vehicle crash around 4:15 a.m. in the 3100 block of 240th Avenue. The Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle was northbound on 240th Avenue when the 21-year-old Hamburg man lost control and the vehicle veered into the east ditch and struck a drainage tube.
The man and two other passengers were taken to Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg with minor injuries. The fourth person in the vehicle, Samantha Johnson, 21, of Farragut, Iowa, was taken by medical helicopter to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha suffering from critical injuries. She remained in critical condition at midday Friday.
The Hamburg man was arrested on suspicion of first-offense operating a vehicle while intoxicated, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The accident remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
