Southern Exposure Event May 28-30 to Benefit Sandhills Cancer Fund

CALLAWAY–The Sandhills Cancer Fund and Shotgun Annie’s in Callaway, Neb. invite the public to attend the Riders Unite for the Fight Against Cancer “Southern Exposure” weekend May 28-30 to help raise funds for local families battling cancer.

The Sandhills Cancer Fund (SCF) is a nonprofit organization aimed at assisting cancer patients and families with financial assistance to help cover out of pocket expenses such as fuel, meals, and lodging during cancer treatments in a 10-county area of the Central Nebraska Sandhills.

For more than 10 years the SCF has hosted events including the Fall #SCF Riders Unite for the Fight Against Cancer Benefit in Brown County. The committee has graciously agreed to allow a similar spring edition in Custer County: the Southern Exposure weekend featuring trail rides, poker runs, auctions, and good food.

Shotgun Annie’s (106 W Kimball St, Callaway, NE 68825) is proud to partner with the Sandhills Cancer Fund in hosting the Southern Exposure event over Memorial Day Weekend.

Shotgun Annie’s co-owner Candice Smith said she loved going to the annual function in Johnstown and wanted to help raise money on the southern end of the SCF territory.

“They’re a nonprofit and they help people in the sandhills from Custer County all the way up to Brown County–there’s 10 counties in their territory. And they help people with travel and lodging. You know, insurance doesn’t cover that stuff and when you have to drive hours and hours to get to treatment that kind of stuff adds up pretty quick,” Smith continued.

“They [SCF] help out with that and help anybody with those kind of needs and goes above and beyond. I’ve been very impressed with them and we’ve gotten to be  really good friends with that group and they do a great job,” Smith told KCNI/KBBN.
