South Loup Advances to State Title Game

The South Loup Bobcats are headed to Lincoln to play for the Class D1 state football championship. The Bobcats defeated Medicine Valley in the state semifinals 34-14. The game was much closer than the score might indicate. After each team scored on their opening drive of the game, Medicine Valley running back Landon Lenz broke loose for a 46 yd touchdown run with 3:57 left in the second quarter to put the Raiders in front 14-6 which would also be the score at halftime. The score would remain that way until South Loup quarterback Jack Rush scored on a 31 yard touchdown run with 1:06 remaining in the 3rd quarter. The 2 pt. conversion was good and the score was tied at 14-14 going into the 4th quarter. With 7:44 left in the game, South Loup would drive down the field to set up a 1 yd. touchdown run by Jack Rush to put the Bobcats up 22-14. Medicine Valley would not be able to respond. Another 1 yd. touchdown run by Jack Rush and an interception return for a touchdown by Leighton Bubak in the final minute would make the final score South Loup 34 Medicine Valley 14. The Bobcats will now play East Butler in the state championship game. East Butler defeated Howells Dodge 22-12. The D1 title game will take place November 20th at Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium. Kickoff will be at 10:15am. The game will be broadcast live on KBBN.
