South Dakota Man Makes First Appearance On Drug Charges

CUSTER COUNTY— A South Dakota man made his first appearance in Custer County Court on Monday, June 14 facing alleged drug charges.

Richard Holiday Jr., 38 of Dante, S.D., is facing an alleged charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute (Class IIA Felony) and possession of marijuana more than an ounce, less than a pound (Class III Misdemeanor).

According to the arrest affidavit, a Custer County Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled Holiday Jr. over after he was found to have been speeding on the Sargent Road. The report states the deputy detected the odor of marijuana and, after a search of the vehicle, located loose bud marijuana and THC concentrates in a book bag and handbag.

Holiday Jr. elected to hire his own attorney and his case was set for a preliminary hearing on July 12 at 2:30 PM. Bond also remained the same at 10% of $10,000.
