South Beatrice Grain Elevator Demolition, Underway

BEATRICE – Demolition is underway of an old grain elevator property along South 6th Street in Beatrice.  Lottman Excavating LLC, of Beatrice has been using two large backhoes to tear into the building adjacent to the legs of the former Aller and Pease Elevator, off the east side of U.S. Highway 77. [audio mp3="http://media3.floodradio.com/columbus/2017/10/Elevator-Demolition1.mp3"][/audio] :16                  “to the landfill” Tim Lottman says his crews will be at the site this week and into next week, filling in the area with dirt.  He says the company has been through a lot of demolition projects, although this is one of the taller structures they’ve handled. [audio mp3="http://media3.floodradio.com/columbus/2017/10/Elevator-Demolition2.mp3"][/audio] :06                  “going real good” Heavy equipment had reduced the building adjacent to the legs of the elevator, to rubble, Wednesday morning.  Crews were using round bales of hay to help contain debris at the site. [audio mp3="http://media3.floodradio.com/columbus/2017/10/Elevator-Demolition3.mp3"][/audio] :07                  “bounce around” Lottman says the elevator itself won’t come down for a week or two.  A large crane with a wrecking ball will be brought in, to finish the job. The Beatrice City Council approved the demolition contract in early September, at a cost of $163,450.  Officials earlier had approved acquisition of the property, with the goal to demolish the structures.
