BROKEN BOW—“Forty-seven years of glamour, scholarship, community, and style” – CEO and owner Jenny Telwar-Daniel. The America’s National Teenager Scholarship Organization (ANTSO) celebrates bright young women who have won state representation based on academic, community service, interview, and onstage competitions. Broken Bow senior Sohpie Eberle began her ANTSO journey two years ago and last November she was crowned Miss Nebraska Senior Sweetheart. She now has the opportunity to head to Houston this week to participate in the final competition. In addition to the Sweetheart category, there are also competitions for Junior Princess, Preteen, Junior, Senior, and Miss. Eberle says she enjoys having the chance to represent her hometown, meet other young women, have fun, and promote the importance of scholastics and community involvement. Her favorite aspect is the interview portion of the competition. Eberle says the scholarship pageant incorporates a personal expression contest, in which participants design and decorate a pair of jeans that represent their personalities. “I like love being an American, you know, that’s just kind of my thing. So, one side of my jeans has the American flag all the way down the leg. And then the other side has my name and all the things I’m in at school. And then it has a cross on the bottom with gold rays coming off of it,” Eberle said. She also said her jeans represent Broken Bow, Huskers, flag team, and a picture of her cat. Sophie has been busy during her time in Broken Bow: she founded a school club called Safe Zone that focuses on anti-bullying and suicide prevention. She is also active in flag team, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, band, choir, Tri-M, and women’s ensemble. Sophie hopes to pursue a career as a neonatal nurse practitioner. While in Houston, Eberle says the young women and their families will visit the NASA Space Center, participate in the Houston Thanksgiving Day parade, serve 35,000 people at a homeless shelter, and attend a celebration ball. Winners will walk away with cash scholarships for college along with other prizes and trips. The shows will be held at the Westin Galleria Houston in the heart of the city. Eberle appreciates the support of her family, state director Kimberly Summer, and the enthusiasm from the Broken Bow community. “The whole town of Broken Bow has just been so supportive of you know, getting me there and saying, ‘oh well if you need help with anything let me know,’ and I just really appreciate it,” Eberle said.
