GATES— A wet, slushy road was the cause of an accident that took place on Saturday, March 30 at approximately 5:00 PM. Custer County Deputies responded to a 911 call where it was reported that a vehicle had slid off the road and rolled onto its top.

According to the police report, when officers arrived on scene they observed a 2004 GMC Envoy was upside down, resting on its top in the south side ditch on the Sargent Road. The two occupants, Makenna Brunken and Megan Christen, were traveling westbound on the Sargent Road approximately ¾ of a mile west of Gates when the vehicle hit a patch of slush/snow on the roadway.

Brunken, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle which crossed the center line and entered the south side ditch and rolled onto its top. Both occupants were not wearing  seat belts and the vehicle was listed as totaled.

An ambulance was on scene, but both women were reported not injured and also refused transport from EMS.
