Seward Issues Water System Emergency Alert after ‘Major Issue’

SEWARD -- A statement from the City of Seward Administrator: The City of Seward is actively working on a major water issue. Both water tower systems have run dry due to an unknown leak in the system. We will need to refill both towers with raw water to locate the leak. Do not boil water for consumption including drinking and cooking. You may still shower, flush toilets, and do laundry. Please limit your water use to ensure pressure remains in the system. Make sure that small children are not consuming the water while bathing. We are unsure if the leak is related to the recent flooding issue. We have all City and Emergency personnel working on the issue. UPDATE AS OF 9:00 PM Sunday night: The City of Seward continues to work to locate a leak in the system. The city is still pumping raw water into the towers. Please do not consume nor drink the water. Do not consume Seward City water even if you boil it. Once water pressure is stabilized you may bathe, run laundry, flush toilets, and other related non-consumption activities. Do not until further notice: Drink the water; Cook with the water; Brush your teeth with the water; or Use water for formula for infants or children. For additional updates please follow local media, social media (https://www.facebook.com/CityofSeward), and the City of Seward website (http://www.cityofsewardne.gov/).
