ServeSafe Food Training Courses Available In March; Deadlines To Register February 20 & 26

Registrations are still being accepted for the ServSafe Food Handler Food Safety Training Course to be held in three locations in western Nebraska next month.

Courses are scheduled for:

Lexington – Monday, March 2, at the Dawson County Extension Office Meeting Room, Fairgrounds, 1002 Plum Creek Parkway, Lexington, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:15 a.m

North Platte – Tuesday, March 3, at the West Central Research, Extension & Education Center, 402 W State Farm Road, North Platte, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT with registration beginning at 12:45 p.m.

McCook – Wednesday, March 4, at the Community Building, Fairgrounds, West 5th & O Street, McCook from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT with registration beginning at 12:45 p.m.

The ServSafe Food Handler program is designed for kitchen employees including but not limited to cooks, dish machine operators, shipment receivers and employees who handle and prepare food in restaurants and other food service establishments.  The training provides information on food safety; personal hygiene; using thermometers; preparation, cooking, serving, receiving and storing food safely; and cleaning and sanitizing.

The training is sponsored by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension. Register by February 20 for Lexington, North Platte and McCook sites.

An additional class will also be available for food service workers who would like to update their food safety knowledge and skills. Those who are interested are invited to attend a workshop on March 18th in North Platte.

The ServSafe Manager food safety training course will be held at the West Central Research, Extension & Education Center Classroom at 402 West State Farm Road in North Platte. The class will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT.

Certification by the National Restaurant Association is given to those who complete the training and pass certification requirements.  The program will be presented by University of Nebraska Extension professionals.

There is a fee for the class which includes the course manual and certification exam. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required. Registration is due by February 26th.
