HOWELLS - Law enforcement officials say a semi driver is alive today thanks to wearing his seat belt. Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger says rescue crews were sent to Nebraska Highway 15 about seven miles northwest of Howells at around 7:15 a.m. Saturday. Sheriff Unger says a semi-driver, identified as 55-year old Kevin Nissen of Wayne, was northbound when he drove off the edge of the road and overcorrected, rolling several times. Unger says Nissen was treated at the scene by Howells Rescue, and only suffered minor injuries. Unger credits Nissen's use of a seat belt for lessening the extent of his injuries. The accident closed down Highway 15 for about five hours.
