KCNI/KBBN's Dave Birnie interviews local Boy Scouts during a recent bake sale in Broken Bow.

BROKEN BOW—“Jump in the pool and get cool” as you learn more about local Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts. Area troops are hosting a Recruitment Night Pool Party on Sunday, July 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Broken Bow Swimming Pool.

Troop 48 Scout Master Tom Mooney told KCNI/KBBN the recruitment night is designed to inform people about scouting opportunities and to recruit more students. The event will feature free swimming, free food, games, and the opportunity to sign up for scouts.

Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served starting at 7 p.m. and swimming will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Gracie and Brock Oeltjen enjoy being involved in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and said they like learning new things through scouting activities, fundraisers, and relationships with others.

Soon to be sophomore at Broken Bow High School, Gracie Oeltjen, said she has been in Girl Scouts since she was a Daisy. She loves the friendships, being involved in the community, and the confidence Girl Scouts has given her.

“It’s really gotten me more involved in the community. We did a project with the city administrator to work on our silver award and it was fun to get involved in the community,” Gracie Oeltjen said.

Brock Oeltjen has been in Boy Scouts for a couple years and will be going into seventh grade this fall. He loves camping, building campfires, setting up tents. He said some of his favorite things are spending time with friends and learning how to be open with each other.

“It teaches us to work together all the time and to not leave anybody out,” Brock Oeltjen said.
