Schuyler Man Given 4 Months in Jail on Manslaughter Conviction

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A Schuyler man accused of driving a vehicle drunk that crashed and killed his passenger was given four months in jail last week. 27-year-old Jesus Vasquez De La Cruz was given the sentence by Judge Mary Gilbride in Colfax County District court after he reached a plea deal with prosecutors. In April of 2016, deputies say they arrived on scene in rural Colfax County and found two men on the ground next to an SUV in a ditch. One man, Moises Aguilar-Aguilar, was pronounced dead at the Schuyler hospital. Vasquez-De La Cruz recovered from his injuries in the hospital. Records say Vasquez De La Cruz had a BAC over .15, when he lost control of the SUV and rolled the vehicle down a steep embankment. In exchange for his plea, Vasquez De La Cruz had several charges dropped including: DUI +.15 and driving without a license. He was also ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution.
