Schuyler Man Faces 7-152 Years on Meth Distribution Charges

SCHUYLER, Neb. - A Schuyler man, who is already in prison on a meth related conviction, may spend the rest of his life behind bars on drug charges. 29-year-old Eric Callahan of Schuyler will head to Colfax County district court next month on a bevy charges, including possessing between 28-139 grams of meth, and two narcotic distribution charges. He's also charged with possessing money while selling drugs. According to the court records, in September of 2016, a police informant bought meth from Callahan for a total of $250 on two separate occasions, within one week of each other. After the second transaction, a search warrant was issued for Callahan's home and when police arrived, Callahan attempted to flee, but was arrested in his backyard. The records say he tried to throw a black pouch while being apprehended. The documents say police found 32.5 grams of meth, a small amount of pot, a pipe with residue inside, q-tips, a digital scale and new plastic baggies similar to what was given to the informant. While searching the house, police say they found more meth and marijauan, finding a total of 36 grams of meth, or over 1.2 ounces and 10 grams of marijauna. Police say they also found $635 inside his residence, $160 of which was given to Callahan by the informant. If convicted on all charges, Callahan faces a minimum of seven years in prison, with a maximum of 152 years. Callahan is currently in a prison in Omaha, serving a 6-15 year sentence on possession of meth charges that began in January of this year. In that case, prosecutors argued Callahan sold meth in the Schuyler area. Callahan spent over one year behind bars on burglary charges from 2009. He was released in 2012. He will next be in court on October 4th.
