KEARNEY - At least 13 students were transported to Kearney hospitals Tuesday night following a car-bus crash in north Kearney.
The crash happened around 7:25 p.m. near the intersection of 56th Street and Avenue E. According to police radio traffic the bus belonged to Holiday Express of Grand Island and a Honda Civic received extensive rear-end damage.
13 girls on the Grand Island Walnut Middle School basketball team were injured.
The extent of injuries was unknown. At least a dozen teenagers were huddled in blankets as emergency crews treated patients.
Six ambulances from CHI Health Good Samaritan responded to the scene, along with members of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department.
