Sargent Fair & Chokecherry Jamboree this Weekend!

SARGENT—Head to Sargent this weekend and be prepared to be entertained and practice your pit spitting! The annual Sargent Fair and Chokecherry Jamboree will kick things off tonight with a round of Glow Ball Golf at the Windmill Links golf course, weather permitting (Friday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m.).

Approximately 500 people attended the celebration last year as the fair has been going on for nearly 70 years, with the jamboree portion more than 30 years and counting!

On Saturday the fun begins bright and early with a 5K Walk/Run, Alumni Open House, Sargent High School Tour, Sidewalk Chalk, Alumni Banquet and annual meeting, concessions, teen dance, and an alumni dance.

The annual parade will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday with the theme of “Throwback Decades” and many alumni classes have been preparing floats to fit the theme. Main Street will be the spot to set your chair and watch the parade.

Events on Sunday, June 23 include Church in the park at 10:30 a.m., the Pancake Feed complete with chokecherry syrup, Sand Volleyball, Kids Games, Little Miss Chokecherry, Chokecherry Pit Spitting, Cake Walk, Horseshoe/Corn Hole/Ladder Ball Tournaments as the Junior Class Fundraiser, Dennis Seidel Memorial Water Fight, BBQ, and entertainment by “The Calhouns” beginning at 2 p.m. and again at 5 p.m.

Jackie Roper of the Sargent Fair Board and the Forget-Me-Not-Shoppe said, “we’re doing things a little different this year” as the fair board has gotten some new help with the events. “Looking forward to an awesome parade this year and with they’re [Sargent Women’s Action team] help it’s going to be great,” Roper added.

The Fair Board, S.W.A.T., Sargent teachers and staff, the Chamber, and community volunteers are excited for a few days of big fun in the park!

“In the park, around the park all day Sunday, it is going to be a full day. Bring your chair and be prepared to be entertained all day long!” Roper said.
