SARGENT – The Sargent Fair and Chokecherry Jamboree is slated to begin Saturday, June 25, capping the final full weekend before July.

This year’s theme is “Only in a Small Town,” and features the perennial Little Miss Chokecherry and Pit Spitting contests sandwiching a Saturday of what has historically been a weekend of wonderful fun.

Jamboree Volunteer Secretary Marie Ernesti believes the Jamboree offers something special in addition to the yearly contests: an ever-expanding lineup of inflatables for kids, in more ways than one.

“In lieu of the carnival, we’ve been trying to add to it, and get bigger and better every year with those inflatables, which are free for all the kids to come and play on,” Ernesti said.

While the festival certainly offers a bit of something for everyone, there is one thing that takes center stage in Ernesti’s eyes: “Seeing kids’ smiles and how much fun they have is the best thing ever.”

After the 2:30 p.m. Pit Spitting contest comes the “Only in a Small Town” Parade at 5 p.m. down Main Street.

The theme is open to interpretation, according to Ernesti. “People can go anywhere and everywhere with that.”

The committee is still seeking floats for the parade; a registration form can be found below, along with a more detailed outline of the weekend.
