Rock the Block a Team Effort Between Staff and Kids

NORFOLK, NE — There’s an upcoming back to school The Zone can't wait to invite you too. Rock the Block is only a few weeks away and Youth Mentor and Family Director at The Zone, Greg Priebe says community service is big for them and is a way to say 'thank you' to the community. “The community service we do, we want to say, 'come enjoy this party right before school starts, come as families and enjoy what we have going on here.’” The fundraiser is also a way to showcase The Zone’s mission. "We really focus on values and Rock the Block comes out of these values. Besides the educational piece we have a leadership group that meets every week and they collaborate with us to put together the program…Last year I think we had 20-30 students who were volunteers for Rock the Block." Rock the Block, according to Priebe, wouldn’t be such a success if it wasn’t for the kids. “We’ve been planning for the last six months..." Some of the kids will oversee and run certain attractions, like the carnival. Priebe says they have become very invested in fundraiser. “We aren’t like other after school programs who tells the kids what to do, they collaborate and set the program. The leadership piece of The Zone is kind of the magic, it's their after school program, we aren’t telling them what to do, we are collaborating with them on what might make it successful."
