Ricketts Announces Jobs Program’s Expansion from G.I. to Columbus

COLUMBUS - Governor Pete Ricketts made a stop in Columbus to announce that an innovative jobs program is expanding from Grand Island to Platte County's main hub. Department of Labor officials were also on hand, with Ricketts, to discuss the SNAP program, as it launches in the Columbus area. The program is intended to help local residents upgrade to better paying jobs. DOL Officials said the program would provide short term training, or education, to help supply participants with the right skills to fill jobs here in Columbus. The program is also aimed at helping to decrease dependency on public benefits, by those participating, said DOL officials. DOL officials also said working with local businesses will be key to the success of the program in these new areas. The program recently launched in Hastings in June, and is scheduled to launch in Norfolk in May of 2018, said Ricketts. The program will eventually grow statewide, says Ricketts.
