Deeds Office Implementing New Rules for Vault, Drop Box Open to Courthouse Offices

CUSTER COUNTY–According to a letter from the Register of Deeds, “Your health is important to us. During this time of COVID-19 we are all doing our best to keep a clean and safe environment for everyone. Effective immediately, approved individuals will be allowed on a Case by Case Basis to do a Lien and Title Search Only in the Register of Deeds Vault.”

In addition, Custer County Treasurer Sheri Bryant has announced that the drop box for the Treasurer has been expanded to include all offices at the Courthouse. It is located on the west side of the Courthouse and is labeled as such.

The drop box is a secured area and is checked hourly throughout the day for distribution to the individual offices. Office phone numbers are located on the signage if the customers need to call the office with questions or concerns.

The Register of Deeds continues, “We are limiting the number of individuals allowed in the Vault to no more than two at one time. The approved hours allowed for Title searching will be between 9 AM and 1 PM, Monday through Friday.”

“We are highly recommending and encouraging if possible using email or phone to get information. Also, as much as possible, use Mail or Simplifile to have documents recorded. Individuals must adhere and agree to the guidelines of the Register of Deeds office. We will be following recommended guidelines as set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).”

“You must call ahead to schedule an appointment. Register of Deeds phone number is (308) 872-2221. This will be subject to change as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time of crisis for our nation.”
