NORFOLK - Recovering from addiction takes support, and an event in Norfolk is designed to provide as much support as possible.
Sunrise Place held its 10th annual Recovery Rally on Saturday to help commemorate National Recovery Month.
The event featured music, games and testimonials from those who’ve beaten addiction. Organizers say those still in the battle with addiction need to hear that there’s hope.
“I love being able to see people that are successful and good at what they are doing,” said Sunrise Place director Kristen Neuhalfen. “They’re following through with what’s been recommended. That’s huge for people that are going through it right now.”
The event wasn’t just for patrons of Sunrise Place, but was open to the public as well. Neuhalfen said it’s important to open up the conversation about addiction recovery.
“I think it reduces the stigma associated with addiction,” said Neuhalfen. “It’s not a secret. There are people every day that experience this disease and it’s important to get that out for everybody.”
The Rally also featured a ceremony honoring those that have helped Sunrise Place over the years. This year’s honorees were the Norfolk Area United Way and Jack Conger of Neligh.
