NORFOLK — Professional baseball is coming to Veteran’s Memorial Field this summer.

The Norfolk Area Sports Council announced today that the Lincoln Saltdogs and Sioux City Explorers of the American Association of Professional Baseball will play an exhibition game in Norfolk at 6:30 PM on Saturday, May 12th.

Saltdogs President & GM Charlie Meyer is eager for his club to play in front of hundreds of potentially new Saltdog fans in Northeast Nebraska.

“The Lincoln Saltdogs are very excited about the opportunity to play professional baseball in Norfolk for the first time,” Meyer said.  “It is important to the Saltdogs organization to continue to reach out to the various Nebraska communities and share professional baseball with families and fans across the state.”

Sports Development Manager for the Norfolk Area Sports Council Paul Hughes said the game promises to provide great entertainment for the whole family.

“It will include fun between-inning contests and crowd-pleasing ‘Homer the Haymarket Hound Dog,’” Hughes said.

The Saltdogs are reigning Central Division Champions and are coming off of a 58-41 season.  The X’s finished last season 46-54.  The team’s end-of-season rosters featured former Major Leaguers Shairon Martis, Casey Crosby and Tony Campana.

Tickets will be $10 and are good for the exhibition game plus any Saltdogs home game in Lincoln during the 2018 season.  Tickets can be purchased at Burger King, Culver’s, Lou’s Thrifty Way, Renegade and WJAG.
